Where did BeerNamer come from?
The name BeerNamer came from a conversation I had with a friend of mine who is a brewer for McMenamins, the celebrated chain of Oregon brew pubs. It went something like this:
Me: “Matt, what is toughest thing about brewing beer?”
Matt: “Actually, it is coming up with a name for the beer I brew. There are so many aspects of the beer that need to be represented in the name and it is really challenging to come up with a name that says it all. Beer has flavor, aroma, ingredients, personality, locality. How do you put all of these things in a name? And make it memorable? And make it humorous?”
Me: “Are there any websites out there that help?”
Me: “Hmmm. I think I can fix that.”
So, over the following months, I built the BeerNamer naming app and started BeerNamer.com. It’s original version had five beer name generators based on sixteen libraries and was able to produce nearly 100,000 unique names. Within a few short weeks, over 100 visitors registered.
Times change and so does technology. Today, the BeerNamer naming app is being completely rewritten to be able to work on smart phones and tablets and generate even more names.
